What we co-created with CWP is Reconnect project, that really stands out. Our advice is, do what CWP does.
For the needs of CWP ( Continental Wind Partners) and the goal of supporting the local community, the Re: connect project was designed and implemented.
Re:connect is a platform that gathers global and domestic experts from various fields with the aim of supporting the City of Pančevo to initiate the process of creating a new vision in the transition from an industrial to a green city together with the local community, decision makers, business and NGO sector.
In 2022, Re:connect is conceived as a series of three events, three acts, where each authentically promoteed the values behind the Reconcet platform: returning nature to the city, promoting an active lifestyle in harmony with nature, empowering the local community, protecting the environment .
The first Reconnect. in a series of events was organized in the City Forest of Pancevo in June, 2022, under the name Magical Forest.
It was a small festival for children form surrounding villages of Dolovo and Banatsko novo selo, where kids had the opportunity to learn about the biodiversity of city forest through fun and engaging activities. The glitter in the children’s eyes, witnesses how impactful this event was. Another goal of the event was to promote the city forest and to open it to public of the city of Pančevo, who rarely use this green jewel in the city center.
Reconnect #2 was a little one day festival, organized on the bank of the Tamiš river with a tag line: “Culture in support of sustainability”. A fair of local social enterprises gathered local producers of traditional goods, a live podcast on impact of textile industry on rivers was organized, and the day finished with vibrant concert of a popular local band “Buch Kesidi”.
The city of Pančevo has a valuable cultural and historical heritage that testifies to the development from the Neolithic and Starčevo culture to the modern Industrial City. Although the industry contributed to the economic development of Pancevo, it had a negative impact on the environment and the quality of life of people. Pančevo was a synonym for a city tailored for people. Combination of Urban and environmental balance, a city with an urban mobility culture, using bicycles as a means of transport, an optimal number of cars that do not disturb the balanced pulse of the city, the city that dwels on two rivers.. The excessive urbanization of Pancevo burdened the city and threw Pancevo out of the balance by which the city was recognizable.
To start an idea of transformation of Industrial to green and smart city, a “Green cities” conference was organized in November 2022.
The Green cities conference, as part of the Re:conncet platform, gathered engineers, architects, urban planners, landscape architects, biologists, ecologists, representatives of civil society and the business sector with the aim of launching a dialoge on the possibilities of transferring the Green & smart cities concept to the City of Pancevo, returning nature to the city , and reviving the idea of a City tailored to humans.
The conference inspired locals to dream big and green, and to set Pančevo back to its roots, bringing nature back to city. One major goal at the conference was set – to start forestation projects, to increase a current 2% of the city under forests to 20%.
